Practical nurses play a vital role in patient care in all of these areas. As community dynamics change, so do healthcare needs. Practical nurses play a vital role in the front lines of patient care.
Practical Nursing Director Tammy Sanfilippo explains in this interview from 2024 how the program came to Meadville Medical Center’s Institute for Healthcare Professionals, and why practical nursing is a great career path!
The length of the program in its entirety is 12 months, broken down into 3 trimesters. During this time, you will complete classroom, clinical, and simulation experiences. Course work includes nursing concepts, nursing skills, nursing focus I and II, pharmacology I and II and anatomy and physiology. Classroom days/hours are currently Monday and Tuesday beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 3:30 pm.
The opportunity for advanced placement is available for students who have completed nursing education elsewhere or are returning to this program for a second time. Nursing education must be equivalent to the curriculum of our nursing concepts and nursing skills which are taught in the first trimester. For individuals who have completed nursing fundamentals, an exam may be taken to see if you are eligible to enter the program at the second trimester of the program. The cost of the examination is paid by the student and must be proctored at our educational suite.
This will not only be a school, but a truly immersive experience where graduates make an immediate impact upon entering the workforce.
